Check your public IP address and connection identity
This tool shows the public IP address that websites and Internet services see for your current connection. It also enriches that address with network context such as the ISP, autonomous system number (ASN), organization, hostname, country, region, timezone and other useful details when the GeoIP provider can supply them.
Your public IP is different from private addresses such as 192.168.1.20, 10.0.0.15 or 172.16.0.8, which are used inside local networks. What information can a public IP reveal?
A public IP identifies an Internet-facing connection or network endpoint, not a person with GPS precision. Public databases can often associate an address with an ISP, ASN, organization and an approximate country or city. Accuracy depends on the provider, how the ISP allocates addresses, whether the connection is mobile, and whether traffic exits through a VPN, proxy or carrier-grade NAT platform.

How to use the public IP checker
The tool loads automatically. Press Refresh whenever you want to repeat the lookup, for example after connecting to a VPN, changing networks or switching from Wi-Fi to mobile tethering. Use Copy IP when you need the address for a support ticket, firewall rule, allowlist or troubleshooting note.

Public IP, CGNAT, VPNs and changing addresses
Seeing one public IP does not always mean that address is dedicated to your router. With CGNAT, an ISP can place multiple customers behind shared public addressing. A VPN changes the visible egress point, so websites normally see the VPN server address instead of the address assigned by your access provider. Dynamic connections may also receive a different public IP after reconnecting or after the ISP rotates leases.
These differences matter when diagnosing inbound connectivity, remote access, IP allowlists and reputation problems. If an application works from one network but not another, record the public IP before and after the change and compare the provider/ASN data. IPv4 and IPv6 can appear differently
A connection may have public IPv4 only, IPv6 only, or dual-stack connectivity. The address shown here reflects what the server can observe for the request reaching SubnetMaster. In dual-stack environments, browser and network path selection can influence whether IPv4 or IPv6 is used for a particular destination.

Privacy and practical limitations
Public-IP information is useful for networking, but it should be handled as connection metadata. GeoIP databases can be stale or imprecise, organizations can announce address space from multiple locations, and mobile networks often centralize traffic far from the user. Hostname, ISP and organization fields can also be missing because not every provider publishes the same data.

Frequently asked questions
Is my public IP the same as my local IP?
No. A local address is used inside your LAN, while the public address is the Internet-facing address observed outside that private network.
Why does my public IP change?
Many ISPs use dynamic allocation. Reconnecting, changing access networks or using a VPN can also change the address seen by Internet services.
Can this tool show my exact home address?
No. IP geolocation is approximate network metadata and does not provide GPS-level or street-level certainty.
Why are ISP or ASN fields sometimes missing?
The enrichment depends on external GeoIP data. Some addresses have incomplete metadata, and the service can still return the public IP even when enrichment is unavailable.
